Following her Graduate Scheme Advice article last week, Clare Veal introduces and talks about the Mars 2011 Graduate Scheme.
I am one of 24 fortunate people who joined the Mars grad scheme last September. I wanted to take this opportunity to explain a bit more about our different schemes and to discuss why Mars is such a fantastic company to work for.
At Mars there are a choice of graduate schemes. Our specialised ones are: Finance, R&D, Commercial, Sales and Engineering. These are good if you already know what area of the business you want to work in. Our other scheme is called the Management Development Programme and this allows you to work across a number of areas of the business. The Management Development Programme is a really good way to discover which part of the business you would like to work in long term and also to gain a better understanding of how the company operates.
So that’s what we offer but you probably want to know why the schemes are so good?
Mars is a great company to work for in general with a strong culture of: feedback, support and development as well as a clear ethical stance. These qualities are reflected in the graduate schemes along with the possibility to really progress up the business quickly. If you join our grad schemes, you will not just be making coffee or doing the filing. The roles are challenging, interesting and fulfilling. Plus if you have a new idea for the business, then there will always be someone ready to listen to it! Finally, it is worth knowing that Mars Graduates have gone on to do great things, both within the company (the Mars Chocolate CEO is an Ex-grad…imagine how supportive she is of the grad schemes!) and externally (the CEO of Sainsbury’s was a Mars grad and the former CEO of Boots).
